Interactive Assessments

What is an Interactive Assessment?

Adapting our core rating products to the needs of the MFI market, Planet Rating offers Interactive Assessments to provide maturing MFIs with a powerful decision making tool. Through a concise but exhaustive 10-page report written mostly for internal purposes, Interactive Assessments highlight the main strengths and weaknesses of an MFI. They are conducted in an interactive way with a short training component to explain the rating methodology and continuous feedback from and to the MFI’s team.

Who can benefit from an interactive assessment?

Our Interactive Assessments are suited for both MFIs and its stakeholders: they can help donors and the MFIs identify areas where technical assistance is needed for young MFIs and are an ideal pre-rating tool for investors who want to build a long-term relation with a young MFI. They also allow donors to track the performance of their supported institutions in time, and benchmark it with other MFIs.

How does it work?

Our Interactive Assessments follow the same methodologies as the GIRAFE and Social Performance Ratings. On-site missions last three to five business days, lead by an analyst. Half a day is dedicated to an introduction to the methodology and assessment process, and the mission culminates in a full day joint collaborative analysis of the performance which consists in comparing the MFI’s own assessment with Planet Rating’s analytical insights and microfinance best practice. Throughout the missions, interviews with staff focus on joint evaluation.
